Anniversary celebration:
3 years in and just getting started
Written by Alex Seleznev, MBA, CFP®, CFA | August 5, 2026

Dear Clients and Friends,
Time does fly... For those of you who know me personally, you know I use this phrase a lot but it doesn't make it less true.
Capital Squared was launched on August 4 of 2023, three years ago yesterday, but it feels like it just happened a couple of weeks ago.
Even though some things changed, the core idea behind Capital Squared remained the same.
We continue to provide exceptional service to a small group of clients and in some cases even work with entire families up to four generations.
We are always there when our clients need us and our advice is comprehensive and easy to understand.
We specifically stay away from unnecessary jargon and overly complicated software reports as they frequently result in more confusion than added value.
As I look back at this, including the decision to launch Capital Squared, this approach is what some might call “old school.”
It's also why some of my client relationships now stretch back over fifteen years.
This will always be the way we approach it as we actively decline the idea of growth for the sake of growth.
I'm happy to report the firm has become more known for its specialty in retirement and multi generational planning.
Our team has also grown thoughtfully over the past year to support the level of service our clients have come to expect. You may have seen those announcements in recent newsletters.
That said, one team milestone worth revisiting is my business partner Asi De Silva passing the Tax Planning Certified Professional (TPCP®) exam earlier this year.
As many of you know, Asi brings over 25 years of institutional and Wall Street investing experience to Capital Squared. This experience shapes how we think about both portfolio construction and tax efficient investing. I believe this is of particular importance in today's turbulent markets.
Tax planning is central to how we help our clients and the TPCP® designation gives us another layer of expertise to draw from.
Asi also continues to provide brief and thoughtful market updates that our clients and network genuinely appreciate. Based on the feedback we receive, these updates help viewers understand the markets without the "noise" that dominates popular financial media.
On the external recognition side, I was also included in Kiplinger's Personal Finance annual Yieldfest article that talks about best available income oriented investment options for the fifth consecutive year.
It's always meaningful to be included alongside some of the top investment minds in the country and it reflects the specialty we have been building at Capital Squared.
The majority of our new relationships come as referrals from our current clients, frequently when their friends and family are in the process of planning for their retirement.
I always thank our clients and network individually when they connect us with new clients and I would like to take this opportunity to say it again.
Thank you all for your continued trust and connections. It's greatly appreciated!
A couple of other milestones worth sharing. Since the launch of the firm, our weekly newsletter has never missed a Wednesday. That's over 150 weeks of content focused on retirement planning and related topics.
Many of the ideas we write about come directly from our client meetings which I believe is what makes the newsletter relevant to our audience.
Over the past 12 months, we also hosted or participated in a meaningful number of educational events, including our webinars with Chevy Chase at Home and our internal seminars on various planning and investment topics.
Three years in and it honestly feels like we are just getting started!
My commitment is the same as it was on day one. Stay small and nimble. Provide exceptional client support and continue building the kind of firm I would want as a client myself.
Thank you for making the first three years everything I hoped they would be. I look forward to working with you in year four and beyond.
